Chess: Arjun held number one Carlsen to a draw, Gukesh had a bad start

FIDE Candidates Champion D Gukesh did not have a good start in the Superbet rapid and blitz chess tournament but another Indian player Arjun Erigaisi managed to hold world number one Magnus Carlsen of Norway to a draw in the first match. World number seven Arjun also drew his other two games and is far behind leader Kirill Shevchenko of Romania after the third round of the competition.

Gukesh lost the first two games
Gukesh lost his first two games, while he shared the points in the third game. He is in last place among 10 players with one point. Another Indian player R Praggnanandhaa made a comeback in the third round and defeated Nodirbek Abdusattorov of Uzbekistan. Arjun and Praggnanandhaa have equal three points. Shevchenko is in sole lead with six points. He is followed by Carlsen and Abdusattorov who have four points each.

Gukesh had spread his glory in the Candidates Tournament
India’s 17-year-old Grandmaster D Gukesh created history by winning the Candidates Chess Tournament played in Toronto. With this, he became the youngest challenger for the world title, breaking the record set by the great Garry Kasparov 40 years ago. Gukesh also became the youngest player to win the Candidates Chess Tournament.
