Life disrupted due to torrential rains and cloudburst in Kumaon, Uttarakhand, debris entered houses, NH closed

There was forest fire in the mountains for the last several days. In such a situation, while the forest fires have stopped due to heavy rains in the mountains, there have been incidents of heavy rains and cloud bursts late night in Almora and Bageshwar districts. This created chaos. Due to cloud burst in Bageshwar’s Kapkot, debris entered many houses. Cracks appeared in many houses. The highway connecting Almora-Bageshwar district was also closed due to debris and water. The villagers remained in terror throughout the night due to the incident.
There was chaos in Someshwar of Almora due to heavy rain on Wednesday night. Due to torrential rains, debris entered many houses. Cracks appeared in many houses. Due to debris and water, the highway connecting Almora-Bageshwar district was also closed and traffic on it came to a standstill. The villagers were frightened by the ferocious nature of rain and flood.
The rain showed its havoc for about an hour due to which people suffered losses to a great extent. Some houses were filled with debris, while others suffered damage due to cracks. People’s essential goods also got ruined due to debris and water. After the rain stopped, the villagers returned to their homes. Almora-Kausani highway was also closed due to debris, due to which vehicular movement also remained stopped. Many vehicles also remained stuck in the debris.
Due to this torrential rain, Sai and Kosi rivers also came in spate. On receiving information about cloud burst, the administration team reached the spot. Officials say that there was no loss of life due to the incident. The damage is being assessed.
Landslides have occurred due to rain in Garhwal division also. Heavy rains caused debris late night in Sirobagarh on Rishikesh-Badirnath National Highway. Due to this, this national highway remained closed throughout the night. After 6 hours of hard work, the National Highway could be made smooth for traffic. The good thing is that due to the rain, the fire in other forests including Pauri has been extinguished.
