History and recipe of Chabeel
Chhabeel is a sweet non-alcoholic energetic Punjabi drink that the Sikh community has been serving to the public for centuries to pay respect to the 5th Sikh Guru, Guru Arjun Dev Ji. It was he who taught the Sikhs to accept God’s will as blessings and sweets. Guru Arjun Dev Ji was punished when he refused to follow the orders of the Mughals. While he was burning, he was made to sit on a red-hot plate and hot sand was poured over him. The Sikh community honors the martyrdom of the Guru by offering Chhabeel to the needy on summer afternoons.
Chabeel is a healthy drink
In the scorching heat of May June, a glass of Chhabeel definitely acts as a blessing when you are suddenly given the drink while on your way to work. This coolant not only cools but also provides energy. Chhabeel helps in controlling body temperature due to its cooling properties and also takes care of the digestive system. This drink helps in reducing uric acid and is a cure for swelling. Many people also carry this Chabeel with them by filling it in their water bottles.
How is Chhabil made?
It is very easy to make a picture. All you need to have is milk, cold water, rose syrup and most importantly – a big, caring heart full of love.
The key to making perfect chabeel is to mix 80% percent water and 20% milk. This coolant should be cold and watery. Rooh Afza is used in the recipe as it is the most common rose syrup available in the market.
