Uttarakhand: License of blood banks operating outside hospitals will not be renewed, new guidelines issued

The Blood Center Division of the Central Drugs Standard Control Organization has issued a new guideline regarding the blood banks operating outside the hospitals. Under which the license of blood banks operating outside the hospitals will not be renewed. After the guidelines were issued by the Blood Center Division of CDSCO, the Uttarakhand Food Safety and Drug Administration Commissioner has issued an update regarding the license of blood centers. Under which the licenses of blood centers opened outside the hospital in the state will not be renewed.
Food Safety and Drug Administration Additional Commissioner Tajbar Singh Jaggi said that the license of blood centers opened outside the hospital will not be renewed. He also said that in the letter received from the Blood Center Division of the Central Drugs Standard Control Organization, it has been said that the blood centers which are not located in the hospital premises will no longer be given license. Also, applications for such blood centers will not be sent to the Central Licensing Approval Authority for approval.
Additional Commissioner Tajbar Singh Jaggi said that the State Drug Administration is implementing this policy under Rule 122G of the Drug Rules, 1945. Under this rule, applications for granting or renewal of license for running blood centers or preparation of human blood components should be given only by those organizations which are fulfilling other criteria including being located within the hospital premises. It was also said that some blood centers in the state are being operated outside the hospital premises. To curb this, it has been decided that now only blood centers located within the hospital premises will be given license. This will promote the quality and safety of blood donation and related services across the state.
