Boxing Olympic Qualifiers: Nishant becomes the first Indian boxer to get an Olympic ticket, Panghal-Siwach one win away

Nishant Dev (71kg) on ​​Friday became the first Indian boxer to secure an Olympic quota by reaching the semi-finals of the Boxing Olympic Qualifiers here.

World Championship bronze medallist Nishant, who narrowly missed out on an Olympic berth in the previous qualifiers, defeated Moldova’s Vasil Cebotari 5-0 in the quarter-finals to secure the quota.

Amit Panghal (51 kg) and Sachin Siwach (57 kg) have also come very close to the Paris quota in their respective categories. Five quota places were at stake in the men’s 71 kg weight category and in this way Nishant secured his place in the Paris Olympics by reaching the semi-finals.
