Uttarakhand: Young men were taken abroad in the name of jobs and held hostage, case filed against agent

A case has come to light of taking the youth abroad in the name of job and holding them hostage. The victim’s sister has filed a complaint against the agent regarding the matter. After which the Dehradun police has registered a case against the agent.

Taken abroad and held hostage in the name of job

On Wednesday, Jiya Gautam, daughter of Sitaram Gautam, resident of Raiwala, has given a complaint to the police regarding the matter. Jiya told in the complaint that her brother Vidhan Gautam, who worked in the IT sector, came in contact with agent Jai Joshi, a resident of Gujarat, in May 2024. The agent had made a video call to her brother Vidhan Gautam. The agent took the screening test of all through video call, saying that he would get her brother and his 7 companions a job in an IT company in Thailand and give them a good salary.

The agent told the youth that they have been selected in an IT company in Bangkok and the company will provide all the expenses and facilities to go from India to Bangkok, Thailand. After which on May 21, 2024, agent Jai Joshi took his brother Vidhan and 7 other companions from Delhi to Bangkok, Thailand. Jiya told that since then her family has not been able to contact her brother. On which they contacted agent Jai Joshi.

Pressure being created for cyber fraud by keeping them hostage

The agent misled them and told them that Vidhan has got a good job, and he is not able to talk due to being busy. After that they could not talk to Jai Joshi. After some time, Vidhan Gautam called Jiya’s father on WhatsApp number. Vidhan told in the call that Jai Joshi has cheated us. Vidhan and his companions were kidnapped from Bangkok airport by the agent’s companions at gunpoint and from there they were made to cross the Myanmar border and held hostage.

Vidhan told his father that about 70 Indian youths and a total of about 200 people from other countries have been held hostage there. Out of which 10 youths are from Uttarakhand. Everyone is being tortured and we are being made to do cyber fraud. Vidhan told that whoever does not listen to them is killed by them. If we are not freed from their custody soon, then these people will kill us too.

Case registered against accused agent

On the basis of the complaint, Dehradun police has registered a case against the accused agent in Raiwala. SSP Dehradun said that in the above case, the Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India is constantly coordinating with other related agencies and making every possible effort for the return of the youth.
