Shivraj Singh Chauhan appointed election in-charge of Jharkhand, Himanta Biswa Sarma made co-in-charge

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has geared up for the Jharkhand Vidhan Sabha elections. On Monday (June 17), former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister and Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has been appointed as the election in-charge of Jharkhand. Along with him, BJP’s firebrand leader and Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma has been made co-in-charge.

BJP National General Secretary cum Headquarters In-charge Arun Singh has issued a press release related to organizational appointment and said that National President Jagat Prakash Nadda (JP Nadda) has appointed state election in-charge and co-in-charges for the upcoming assembly elections.

Assembly elections will be held in 4 states including Jharkhand in 2024

Along with Jharkhand, BJP has also announced election in-charges for Maharashtra, Haryana and Jammu and Kashmir. Bhupendra Yadav has been made the state election in-charge of Maharashtra, while Ashwini Vaishnav has been made the state election co-in-charge. Both are Union Ministers. Dharmendra Pradhan has been appointed in-charge for Haryana assembly elections and former minister cum MP Biplab Kumar Deb has been made co-in-charge. Union Minister G Kishan Reddy has been appointed as the state election in-charge of Jammu and Kashmir.

Assembly elections possible in Jharkhand in November-December

Jharkhand assembly elections are likely to be held in November-December later this year. In the Lok Sabha elections 2024, BJP suffered a big loss in Jharkhand. Therefore, the party has intensified preparations for the assembly elections in advance. Let us tell you that in the Lok Sabha elections 2024, BJP won only 8 seats, whereas in the year 2014 and the year 2019 it had won 11-11 seats. BJP did not win any tribal dominated seat this time.

28 seats reserved for ST in Jharkhand Assembly with 81 seats

It is known that there are a total of 81 assembly seats in Jharkhand. Out of these, 28 seats are reserved for Scheduled Tribes. 9 seats are reserved for Scheduled Castes. Only 44 seats are general seats. In the 2019 assembly elections, BJP had to face a crushing defeat. It contested on 79 seats and won only 25 seats. Out of 14 Lok Sabha seats, 5 are reserved for ST. BJP did not win any of these seats this time.
