Uttarakhand: Case of irregularities in tenders of hoardings and unipoles in Municipal Corporation Doon, High Court seeks reply from the government

Congress leader Abhinav Thapar had filed a petition in the High Court in the case of irregularities in the tenders of hoardings and unipoles in the Municipal Corporation Dehradun for the last 10 years. Hearing this, the Nainital High Court has sought a reply from the state government.

Irregularities in tenders of hoardings and unipoles

In the case of irregularities in the tenders of hoardings and unipoles in the Municipal Corporation Dehradun for the last 10 years, Congress leader Abhinav Thapar, resident of Dehradun and the petitioner had earlier given representations to the possible cartel system. He had earlier given representations to the Principal Secretary Urban Development and Mayor Dehradun in 2023 in the matter of profit of Rs 300 crore during the 10 years of BJP rule and revenue loss of crores of rupees to the Municipal Corporation Dehradun due to irregularities in the tenders of hoardings and unipoles from 2013 to 2023. But when no action was taken on this, he knocked the door of the High Court. The High Court has taken serious cognizance of this matter and has also sought a reply from the government.

Thapar raised questions on the functioning of Municipal Corporation Dehradun

Let us tell you that in the year 2019, a survey committee was formed by the Municipal Corporation. It gave a report of 325 illegal hoardings. But till date it has not been told who was selling illegal hoardings to the public? Were these three companies or their associate companies? And what action did the Municipal Corporation take on the “illegal revenue collection” of the companies that were selling illegal hoardings?

Congress leader Abhinav Thapar raised questions on the functioning of Municipal Corporation Dehradun. He says that who is stopping the investigation from 11 August 2023 till date on my complaint with facts in the game of 300 crores in hoarding-unipole tenders in 10 years (2013 to 2023) during the BJP’s Dehradun Municipal Corporation rule? Who recovered the revenue of 325 illegal hoardings? This petition was filed for the investigation of all these subjects and for the answers to my questions.

Next hearing of the case on 10th September 2024

Advocate Abhijay Negi informed that the joint bench of Chief Justice Ritu Bahri and Justice Rakesh Thapliyal of the Hon’ble High Court heard the PIL on the hoarding and unipole tender scam of the Municipal Corporation of Dehradun. Taking serious cognizance of the matter, he directed the government and the Municipal Corporation of Dehradun to investigate the petitioner’s complaint letter of September 2023. Along with this, the petitioner was ordered to submit the status of 325 illegal hoardings. The next hearing of the case will be on 10th September 2024.
