Kerala / Pathanamthitta: Troubled by son’s drug addiction, parents commit suicide, set themselves on fire inside the car

An elderly couple in Pathanamthitta allegedly committed suicide by setting themselves on fire inside their car on Friday, upset over their son’s drug addiction, police said. According to police, the bodies of Raju Thomas George (69) and Legi Thomas (63), residents of Tiruvalla, were found burnt inside their car.

What did the police say?

According to a suicide note recovered from their residence, the couple appears to have taken the step as they were upset over their 39-year-old son’s drug addiction. Their son is currently admitted in a private rehabilitation centre at Thodupuzha in Idukki district, police said.

A police officer said, “This suicide note was for the police. They have requested to get their son admitted to a government institution for treatment. They also said that their property should be handed over to their daughter-in-law and granddaughter.”
