The accused of raping a four-year-old girl in Shahjahanpur district of Uttar Pradesh was arrested by the police after an encounter. In the incident, the accused and a policeman were injured by bullet shots. Superintendent of Police Rajesh S. said on Thursday that a person named Sanju, accused of raping a four-year-old girl living in a village in Kant police station area by picking her up from her house while she was sleeping, was arrested by the police after an encounter near Jinn Wali Puliya.

He said that Sanju alias Sanjay was trying to escape somewhere when the police surrounded him. He fired at the police team, injuring constable Anil Kumar. In retaliation, Sanju was also shot. After this, he was arrested. He and the injured constable have been admitted to the hospital.

According to the Superintendent of Police, Sanju told the police during interrogation that he entered the girl’s house from the roof on Tuesday night and picked up the sleeping girl and took her to a tube well complex near the village, where he raped the girl.

Rajesh said that the police have registered a case against Sanju under sections 331(4) (trespassing at night), 137(2) (kidnapping), 65(2) (rape) of the Indian Penal Code and relevant sections of the POCSO Act.

It is known that the victim girl went missing from her house on Tuesday night. When the family searched for her, she was found naked in a tubewell complex some distance away from the village on Wednesday morning.

He said that the family had filed a report under sections of kidnapping and rape, naming a 55-year-old man of the same village on the basis of suspicion. But in the initial investigation of the police, it was found that the named person was not involved in the incident.

After that, the police received information that Sanju, a resident of the same village, had committed this incident. Rajesh said that after this the police started searching for Sanju and it was found that he had fled from the village on Wednesday night.
