Cabinet approves Uttarakhand’s first sports university ordinance, Minister Rekha Arya expresses gratitude

The first sports university ordinance of the state has got the approval of the Dhami cabinet. The bill was earlier returned from the Raj Bhavan without approval. Sports Minister Rekha Arya has thanked Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami and the cabinet for this after the cabinet meeting. He expressed hope that it will soon get approval from the Raj Bhavan as well.
The government had introduced the State Sports University Bill on the second day of the monsoon session of the Assembly in August 2024. It was sent to the Raj Bhavan for approval. The bill said that the Governor will be the Chancellor of the University. At the same time, the government will give a corpus fund of Rs 10 crore for the university.
The proposal to confer any honorary degree or other distinctions will be made only after the approval of the Chancellor, while the Vice Chancellor will be a full-time salaried officer of the university. During that time, it did not mention the four nominated members by the Governor in the working council of the university. The qualification for the appointment of the Vice Chancellor was also not completely clear.
The bill was returned without approval when ‘other’ was written regarding the qualification. According to Sports Minister Rekha Arya, after settling the objections, the ordinance got the cabinet’s approval. The minister said that the Sports University is one of the ambitious projects of the state.
