Municipal elections in Uttarakhand are near, but the dates have not been decided yet. The BJP is trying to take advantage of the victory in the recent by-election in Kedarnath and is intensifying its campaign in various municipal corporations.

According to government sources, there are a total of 45 municipal corporations and 46 municipal councils in Uttarakhand. Municipal elections are expected to be held later this month or in January 2025. Meanwhile, the way for municipal elections in Uttarakhand has been cleared after the Raj Bhavan’s approval to the ordinance related to OBC reservation in municipalities.

This approval has cleared the way for implementing OBC reservation based on the report of a single-member dedicated commission. The elections will cover 11 municipal corporations, 41 municipal councils and 50 nagar panchayats across Uttarakhand. The BJP is looking to maintain its momentum, setting the stage for an exciting electoral contest in the state.
