Congress state president Karan Mahara has advised local MLA Mayukh Mahar, who is supporting an independent candidate instead of Congress candidate Anju Lunthi in the mayoral election, to resign from the party. During a public meeting on Saturday in support of the Congress candidate, Mahara bluntly told the MLA that if he has so much courage, he should resign and sit at home and contest the elections again.
He also targeted former municipal president Jagat Singh Khati, who left the Congress and joined the BJP. Mahara said that he is ashamed that he is the president of a party which took a wrong decision earlier and gave such a person a chance to become the municipal president.
During the public meeting held at Subhash Chowk in the city, Mahara launched a political attack on BJP as well as MLA Mahar and former municipal president Khati. Mahara said that the MLA has betrayed the party by supporting an independent against the Congress candidate. He said that the MLA had betrayed the party in 2019 as well.
Mahara said that in fact the MLA has hit two birds with one stone with this step. The MLA has tried to shore up the crisis in his political future in the form of Rishendra Mahar and weaken Anju.
