Uttarakhand: Who is responsible for BJP’s defeat in the bodies of Nainital district? BJP lost six out of seven seats

BJP established its supremacy by winning 21 out of 42 municipal bodies of Kumaon division. The party’s worst performance was in Nainital district, which is the division headquarters. Out of the seven bodies here, BJP has been successful in retaining its victory only in Haldwani Municipal Corporation. There is talk of reviewing the results, but it will be difficult to decide who is responsible for the defeat on six seats.

For the last one year, the responsibility of municipal bodies was with the administrators. There is a discussion within the party that some officers did not work properly and the party had to suffer due to not resolving public problems on priority. It is being said by the party leaders that there were many such officers who kept a distance from the public.

Talking about Nainital district, Congress registered victory in three municipalities Nainital, Bhawali and Bhimtal. Independent candidates won in two municipalities Kaladhungi and Ramnagar and one Nagar Panchayat Lalkuan. Haldwani Municipal Corporation seat was the only seat where BJP was able to save its honour. Congress has registered victory for the second time in a row in Nainital and Bhimtal seats. On the other hand, BJP’s position has been good in Municipal Corporations and Municipalities of other districts of Kumaon, Almora, Pithoragarh, Bageshwar, Udham Singh Nagar, Champawat. Senior BJP leaders also believe that where BJP lost, in most of the places, the difference was marginal.

BJP reached from three to one

In the last Municipal Corporation elections, BJP had captured three seats in the district. These included Bhawali, Kaladhungi and Haldwani. This time it was reduced to only one. Congress won in Bhawali and Independent in Kaladhungi.
