The biggest theft in the crypto world, hackers stole Ethereum worth Rs 13 thousand crores from Bybit exchange

Bybit CEO Ben Zhou confirmed this theft by sharing a post on the social media platform X (Twitter). He told that a hacker hacked Bybit’s offline Ethereum wallet. After this, digital assets worth billions of dollars were stolen through several transactions.

Investors are afraid of going bankrupt
After this theft, there is an atmosphere of fear among the users of Bybit. Many users are also afraid of the company going bankrupt. Due to this fear, they started withdrawing their funds. However, Zhou dispelled this fear and said that “Bybit will not go bankrupt. Whether this stolen money is returned or not. Customers’ money is completely safe. We can compensate for this loss ourselves.”
North Korean hackers suspected
According to CNBC’s report, analysts of cyber security firm Elliptic have linked this theft to North Korea’s infamous ‘Lazarus Group’. This is a government hacking group. Earlier also it has stolen billions of dollars by targeting many crypto exchanges.
WazirX also faced a major attack
Before Bybit, Indian crypto exchange WazirX also faced a major cyber attack. In this attack in July 2023, cryptocurrency worth Rs 2,000 crore ($235 million) disappeared. WazirX co-founder Nischal Shetty had also suspected the hand of Lazarus Group for this theft.
