Tragic accident in South Africa, bus overturns on highway; 12 killed and 45 injured
A tragic accident has happened in Johannesburg city of South Africa. At least 12 people died after a bus overturned on the highway here. 45 people are reported to be injured in the accident. After receiving the information, the emergency team reached the spot and started the rescue operation.
Accident happened near the airport
City’s Ekurhuleni Emergency Management spokesperson William Nthladi said that emergency teams are trying to straighten the bus so that it can be seen if any other victim is trapped under the bus. The accident happened on a highway near Johannesburg’s main OR Tambo International Airport.
Police investigating
The bus was carrying people from Katlehong, a township east of Johannesburg. The bodies of nine men and three women were recovered from the accident site. Nthladi said the driver was among those taken to hospital. No other vehicles were involved in the accident and authorities have not yet determined the cause. Police are investigating.
