Ukraine has launched its biggest attack on Russia in the midst of the war. The Russian army said on Tuesday that the air defense system shot down 337 Ukrainian drones in 10 Russian regions overnight. This is believed to be Ukraine’s biggest drone attack on Russia in three years. One person has died and many others have been injured in this attack.
Important meeting going on in Saudi Arabia
This attack has taken place at a time when a Ukrainian delegation is about to meet the top US diplomat in Saudi Arabia to end the three-year-long war with Russia. There has been no immediate comment from Ukrainian officials on this attack. This dialogue in Saudi Arabia reflects a new diplomatic effort after President Volodymyr Zelensky’s heated argument with US President Donald Trump at the ‘White House’ on February 28.
Russia also shot down drones
The Russian Defense Ministry said in a statement that the maximum 126 drones were shot down in the Kursk region across the Ukrainian border. Some parts of this area are controlled by the Ukrainian army and 91 drones were shot down in Moscow. Apart from this, drones have also been shot down in areas like Belgrod, Bryansk and Voronezh bordering Ukraine and Kaluga, Lipetsk, Nizhny Novgorod, Oryol and Ryazan located deep inside Russia.
One person died
Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said that more than 70 drones coming towards the Russian capital were shot down. Moscow Governor Andrei Vorobyov said that one person was killed and nine people were injured in the attack. Apart from this, several residential buildings and many cars were also damaged. Lipetsk Governor Igor Artamonov said that another person was also injured on a highway in the area.
Air and train operations affected
Sobyanin said that the roof of a building in Moscow was also damaged. Flights from six airports have been temporarily banned. These include airports in Domodedovo, Vnukovo, Sheremetyevo, Zhukovsky, Yaroslavl and Nizhny Novgorod regions near Moscow. Local officials said that the departure of trains from Domodedovo railway station in Moscow was also stopped for some time.
