Uttarakhand / Champawat: Outcry over drinking water in Lohaghat, villagers gheraoed SDM office

Summer has not even started properly and there is an outcry over drinking water in Nai Balai village of Lohaghat block of Champawat. Villagers have demanded solution of the problem from departmental officials many times. But no cognizance has been taken of the complaints so far. Angry villagers today gheraoed the SDM office and protested.

Outcry over drinking water in Lohaghat

On Monday, angry villagers reached SDM office Lohaghat under the leadership of Gram Pradhan Administrator Janaki Bisht, angry with the negligence. Where the villagers demonstrated vigorously by raising slogans against Jal Nigam to solve the drinking water problem. Also, demanding solution of the problem, a memorandum was given to SDM Lohaghat Neetu Dangar.

The villagers told that under the Har Ghar Nal Har Ghar Jal Yojana, a plan was made for the village by Jal Nigam, but now the department is preparing to provide water to other villages through its scheme. Villagers say that there is already an outcry for drinking water in the village and a little water is available in three to four days.

Villagers warned of fierce agitation

Angry people said that drinking water has already been supplied to four villages from the village’s drinking water source. The villagers have demanded from the administration that the department should not give water to any other village from this scheme and streamline the drinking water supply of the village. The villagers have warned of fierce agitation if the demand is not met.

Will take information from the officials of Jal Nigam: SDM

Regarding the matter, Lohaghat’s SDM Neetu Dangar said that the problem of the villagers has come to the fore. Soon the officials of Jal Nigam will be called and information about the matter will be taken. If the problem can be solved at their level, then the problem will be solved.
