There was massive violence in Murshidabad district of West Bengal against the Waqf Amendment Act, the situation is still tense. Meanwhile, a petition has been filed in the Supreme Court regarding the violence. In which a demand has been made to form a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to investigate the communal violence. Along with this, a demand has been made to seek clarification from the Bengal government on the issue of deteriorating law and order.

This petition has been filed in the Supreme Court by lawyer Shashank Shekhar Jha. The petition has demanded… A Special Investigation Team (SIT) should be formed under the supervision of the court to investigate the incidents of communal and political violence going on in West Bengal. Explanation should be sought from the respondents about the failure of law and order and at the same time the victims should be directed for compensation and rehabilitation. Along with ensuring the safety of the affected people, a demand has been made to pass such other orders which the court deems appropriate in the interest of justice and equality.

A report will be prepared and handed over to the Home Ministry

Meanwhile, BSF Eastern Command ADG Ravi Gandhi will go on a two-day tour of Malda and Murshidabad from today (Monday). During this time, he will visit the violence-affected areas of Suti, Samserganj, Jangipur and will also review the deployment of BSF in sensitive areas. A report will be prepared in this regard and will soon be handed over to the Home Ministry.

Protest against the amended Waqf Act

In fact, a protest was held in Murshidabad district against the amended Waqf Act, which turned into violence in no time. During this, the miscreants set fire to many vehicles including police vans and stone pelting was done on security forces and shops. Even police booths were burnt. The situation is such that Hindu families in Muslim-dominated Murshidabad district are terrified and have been forced to migrate. These people have taken refuge in neighboring districts.

3 people died, many injured in violence

3 people died in the violence that started on Friday (April 12), while many people were injured. These include 18 policemen, who have been admitted to the hospital for treatment. The police has taken action and arrested more than 210 people so far. Currently, 9 companies of BSF and 8 companies of CRPF are present in the violence-affected areas. Curfew has been imposed under section 163 of BNSS in the violence-affected areas and internet services are closed.

‘The situation is gradually becoming normal…’

At the same time, a senior police officer said on Monday that the situation in Murshidabad is now gradually becoming normal, shops are opening again and displaced families have started returning to their homes. Additional Director General (ADG) Javed Shamim gave information about the situation. He said that efforts are being made to restore peace and stability in the affected areas. So far 19 families have returned to their homes.
