Israel is continuously carrying out fierce attacks in Gaza. Israel has clearly said that the attacks will not stop until it achieves its goals. Meanwhile, Hamas has said that Israel has offered a 45-day ceasefire, provided it releases the remaining half of the people held hostage in Gaza. A Hamas official told AFP that Israel has also demanded that Hamas give up its weapons to end the war in Gaza.
What did Hamas say?
The Hamas official said that Egyptian mediators have agreed to Israel’s proposal. Half the hostages will have to be released in the first week of the agreement, the ceasefire will be in place for at least 45 days and during this time access to humanitarian aid will be restored in Gaza. The official said that Hamas negotiators are going to Qatar, where the group has an office, and talks have been held with Israel. Israel has not immediately commented on Hamas’ statement.
How many are hostages now
The official said, “Hamas informed the mediators that it is ready to agree to any proposal, including a permanent ceasefire, complete Israeli withdrawal from the Gaza Strip and the entry of aid.” There are still about 58 people hostage in Gaza, 34 of whom the Israeli military says have died.
Situation is deteriorating in Gaza
Earlier, the United Nations had warned that Gaza’s humanitarian crisis was getting out of control. No aid has been reaching the area for several weeks and conditions are deteriorating rapidly. The United Nations says there is a severe shortage of medical supplies, fuel, water and other essential items. People in Gaza are forced to live in very bad conditions. Hamas carried out a terrorist attack on Israel on October 7, 2023, after which the war started which is still going on.
