There is a ban on freeholding of Nazul land in the state for the time being. The government has taken this step in the order of the guidelines of the High Court. This has come as a shock to those people who were hoping to get the Nazul land freehold.

People occupying Nazul land in urban areas have been demanding to give them ownership rights by getting this land freehold. In this sequence, the Nazul policy was brought in the year 2009. Later this matter went to the High Court. In the year 2018, the court had declared this policy unconstitutional.

The High Court ordered a stay on the process of getting Nazul land freehold

In the year 2021, the government challenged this order of the High Court in the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court had given a stay on it, which gave relief to the government. After this, the government came up with a new Nazul policy. This policy was for one year, which was later extended till the year 2023. Recently, the High Court ordered a stay on the process of making Nazul land freehold. Now the government has also issued orders in this regard. Instructions have also been issued to the Divisional Commissioners and District Magistrates in this regard.
