Former Karnataka DGP Om Prakash dies, body found soaked in blood under suspicious circumstances

Former Karnataka Director General of Police Om Prakash was found dead under mysterious circumstances at his residence in HSR Layout in Bengaluru on Sunday (April 20, 2025). His body was found soaked in blood on the ground floor of his three-storey house. The former DGP’s wife Pallavi informed the police about the incident.
Police said that injury marks were found on his body, which raised suspicion that he was murdered and the murder is suspected to be on one of his relatives. Senior police officers reached the spot as soon as the information was received. Police suspect the involvement of a close family member in this case. At present, the body has been sent for post-mortem and further investigation is being done.
Police questioned wife and daughter
Police have started questioning Om Prakash’s wife and daughter about his death. According to a PTI report, the retired DGP had earlier expressed concern about his life being in danger from some close associates.
Was the murder due to property?
The Times of India quoted an official as saying that former police officer Om Prakash wanted to transfer his entire property to his son. His decision was reportedly not liked by his wife. At present, his wife is the main suspect. His wife was the first to inform the police about his death but when the police arrived, she refused to open the door, which further increased the suspicion.
The 68-year-old IPS officer of 1981 batch was a native of Champaran in Bihar and had obtained an MSc degree in Geology. He was appointed Director General of Police on 1 March 2015. Earlier, he had also been the head of Fire and Emergency Services as well as Home Guards.
