Taking seriously the ignorance of the orders passed under the Right to Information Act, the State Information Commission has imposed a fine on two Public Information Officers. The commission has instructed both the officers to take RTI cases seriously in future.

Ignoring RTI orders proved costly

Let us tell you that a fine of 25 thousand has been imposed on Village Panchayat Development Officer Amardeep Chaudhary of Bhagwanpur development block of Haridwar while a fine of 10 thousand has been imposed on Section Officer Harish Singh Rawat of Secretariat Agriculture Section. State Information Commissioner Yogesh Bhatt, while hearing both the cases, termed the negligence in timely compliance of the orders as contempt of the commission.

In the appeal related to Village Panchayat Sikandarpur Bhaiswala, the instructions of the commission to provide information within 15 days were ignored by the Panchayat Officer. At the same time, in the case of Agriculture Section also, the orders were not followed on time. The commission has strictly instructed both the officers to take RTI cases seriously in future and provide information on time.
