Uttarakhand: Panchayati Raj Act Amendment Ordinance got approval from Raj Bhavan, government issued notification

Three-tier panchayat elections are likely to be held soon in Uttarakhand. The decision has been taken on the ordinance on which the Uttarakhand government was waiting for the Governor’s approval.

In fact, the Uttarakhand government had sent the Panchayat Raj Act Amendment Ordinance and the OBC Reservation Ordinance to the Raj Bhavan. Which have been approved by the Raj Bhavan. After the Raj Bhavan’s approval on the Panchayat Raj Act Amendment Ordinance, the Uttarakhand government has also issued a notification.

According to the notification issued by the Legislative and Parliamentary Affairs Department, the Governor has approved the ‘Uttarakhand Panchayati Raj (Amendment) Ordinance, 2025’ under clause (1) of Article 213 of the “Constitution of India”. The Panchayati Raj Act amendment has come into force in Uttarakhand only after the notification was issued by the state government. In such a situation, the three-tier panchayat elections will now be conducted on the basis of Panchayati Raj Act Amendment-2025 of the Panchayati Raj Department. In such a situation, after getting the approval of the Panchayati Raj Act Amendment Ordinance and OBC Reservation Ordinance from the Raj Bhavan, the way for three-tier panchayat elections has been cleared.

On the whole issue, Panchayati Raj Minister Satpal Maharaj said that the Uttarakhand government is fully prepared to conduct panchayat elections. In such a situation, now the State Election Commission has to announce the elections. As soon as the elections are announced by the State Election Commission, the state government will move forward towards the elections. He said that the Panchayati Raj Act Amendment Ordinance and the OBC Reservation Ordinance were sent to the Raj Bhavan. Which has been approved by the Governor.
