Israel’s Defense Minister on Sunday (June 08, 2025) ordered the aid ship carrying Greta Thunberg and eleven other activists to be prevented from reaching the war-torn region. A GOT star is also on board the ship. Greta Thunberg and the GOT star have left to deliver humanitarian aid to the people in the Gaza Strip.

Defense Minister Israel Katz said that Israel will not allow anyone to break its naval blockade on the Palestinian territory, which aims to prevent Hamas from importing weapons. Bol Madeleine, operated by activist group Freedom Flotilla Coalition, left for the coast of the Gaza Strip from the Sicilian port of Catania in southern Italy on June 1. It is expected to reach the territorial waters of the enclave by June 8, 2025.

Israel did not allow the aid ship to come last time too!

It is being told that the ship has fruit juice, milk, rice, canned food and protein bars which will be delivered to Gaza. This is the second attempt by activist groups to deliver aid to Gaza using boats. Another attempt by sea failed last month when one of the group’s ships was attacked by two drones while sailing in international waters off Malta and the front of the boat was damaged. The group blamed Israel for the attack.

IDF has already given warning

The Israel Defense Force (IDF) has already warned that it will not allow the aid ship to reach the enclave. Speaking to the Times of London, IDF spokesman Brigadier General Efi Defrin said that the Israeli army is ready to take action to prevent the arrival of the aid ship.

Who is on board the aid ship?

There are 12 activists in this ship. These include Swedish activist Greta Thunberg, French-Palestinian member of the European Parliament Rima Hassan, Yasemin Akar from Germany, Yasemin Akar, Omar Fayad, Pascal Maurière, Reva Viard and Yanis Mahmadi from France, Thiago Avila from Brazil, Suyeb Ordu from Turkey, Sergio Toribio from Spain, Marco van Renes from the Netherlands. Apart from these activists, Irish actor and Game of Thrones star Liam Cunningham is also aboard the Madeleine ship.
