Record of highest rainfall in May The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said that since the record of rain is being kept (year 1901), the highest rainfall has occurred in May this year. This year the country received an average of 126.7 mm of rain. This is 106% more than the long period average (LPA) of 61.4 mm.
IMD wrote in a social media post, Central India received 100.9 mm of rain in May 2025, the highest since 1901.
Rescue of people also took place in Chaten on Sunday
A military camp in Chaten was hit by a landslide on the evening of June 1. At least 28 people and 20 soldiers stranded in Chaten in North Sikkim were airlifted on Sunday after landslides caused by heavy rains disrupted road connectivity in the area.
Efforts are on to trace the missing soldiers. Before the rescue, about 2,000 tourists were stranded for several days in Lachen, Lachung and Chungthang towns of North Sikkim due to bad weather.
