Storm blew at a speed of 104 KM per hour in Delhi, rain in many districts of Punjab, Meteorological Department issued alert

People felt relief on Sunday as heavy rains accompanied by strong winds occurred in most parts of North India including Delhi-NCR, which were facing severe heat due to the activation of Western Disturbance.

According to the Indian Meteorological Department, strong winds with a speed of 40-50 kmph are likely to blow at different places in Northwest India during June 16-21 along with light-moderate rain.

People are facing the brunt of continuous heat

Delhi, which has been in the grip of severe heat for the last five days, witnessed a strong storm at a speed of 104 kmph between 2.30 am and 5.30 am on Sunday, while 42 mm rainfall was recorded.

Hailstorm was also seen in various areas. On Sunday, the minimum temperature in Delhi was 20 degrees Celsius, while the maximum temperature was recorded at 35.6 degrees Celsius, 3.2 degrees below normal. The Meteorological Department has also issued a yellow alert for three days.

The weather also took a turn in Bihar on Sunday. In the evening, partly cloudy weather and strong winds started blowing in Patna and its surrounding areas. According to the Meteorological Center, cloudy weather along with thunder and sporadic rainfall is expected in some parts of southern parts including Patna during the next 24 hours.

Weather of Punjab

An orange alert has been issued for thunderstorms and lightning along with strong winds blowing at a speed of 50-60 km per hour in most parts of the northern parts. There was rain in Chandigarh, Patiala, Sangrur of Punjab, while other districts remained cloudy.

According to the Meteorological Department, there is a possibility of wind blowing at a speed of 40 to 50 km per hour in most of the districts of Punjab from Monday. During this time there will also be light to moderate rainfall. Monsoon may enter Punjab after June 21.

How will the weather be in Himachal?

While there was light snowfall in Baralacha, Kunjum and Rohtang Pass in Himachal Pradesh on Sunday, Shimla, Kangra and Dharamshala received heavy rainfall. The highest rainfall in the state was recorded in Kangra at 34, Dharamshala at 16, Shimla and Kufri at 7 mm each. The Meteorological Department has predicted storms at a speed of 40 kmph at some places in all the districts except Lahaul Spiti and Kinnaur on June 16.

An orange alert has also been issued in some areas of Uttarakhand regarding lightning, heavy rains and strong winds. There are chances of light to moderate rain along with cloudy weather on the Chardham and Yatra route.

Rajasthan received rain for the second consecutive day on Sunday. The Jaipur Meteorological Center has predicted rain in 11 districts of the state on Monday.

30 people died due to lightning and storm-rain in UP

In Uttar Pradesh, drizzle in some districts from western region to Purvanchal did bring a slight drop in the maximum temperature, but there is no relief from humidity. Lightning, storm-rain took the lives of 30 people in various districts.

Five deaths each have occurred in Prayagraj and Jaunpur, two each in Lalitpur, Ghazipur, Gorakhpur, Bareilly, Bijnor, one each in Kanpur Dehat, Kushinagar, Shahjahanpur, Lucknow, Hardoi, Sambhal, Jhansi, Jalaun, Amethi, Sonbhadra. On the other hand, seven deaths in Kanpur are being attributed to heat.

According to the Meteorological Department, there is a possibility of rain for the next three-four days from Monday. The heat wave period is almost over. Varanasi was the hottest on Sunday with 43.2 degrees Celsius. Senior Meteorologist Atul Kumar Singh said that monsoon has started in many parts of the state. Heavy rain is expected on June 18.

Trees fell at many places in Delhi, two died due to electric shock
Due to the storm and rain in Delhi on Sunday morning, trees fell at many places and caused a lot of damage. Two people died due to electric shock in RK Puram, while vehicles were damaged due to falling of trees at many places.

In Pitampura, due to strong storm, an electric pole caught fire and it also reached the nearby houses. Due to this, many cars and two wheelers parked in the parking lot were burnt. Apart from this, a mobile tower fell in Safdarjung Enclave. The tower was installed just a month ago.
