There is big news for the devotees going on Chardham Yatra. Helicopter service for Chardham including Kedarnath Dham is going to be closed from 22 June i.e. Sunday. The Uttarakhand government has taken this decision after the onset of monsoon.

Heli service will be closed for Chardham

Helicopter service for Chardham will be closed from 22 June. The government has taken this decision in view of the onset of monsoon in the state and the continuous helicopter accidents. No helicopter has been able to fly since the helicopter accident in Kedarnath valley on 15 June. There is silence on the helipads and the number of ticket cancellations is also increasing.

More than 5400 passengers have cancelled their tickets

Let us tell you that till now more than 5400 passengers have cancelled their tickets, which has also affected the travel management. Heli services started operating from May 2, and till June 14, 56,044 pilgrims travelled to Kedarnath Dham by helicopter. But due to security reasons and monsoon season, this service will remain suspended. Pilgrims will now have to travel on foot, horse-mule or dandi-kandi.

When will the helicopter service start?

Kedarnath Yatra’s nodal officer Rahul Chaubey informed that all the helicopter companies will return on June 22 amid the onset of monsoon. The second phase of helicopter companies will start after September 15 when the rainy season ends. The administration has also appealed to the pilgrims to plan their journey only after seeing the weather update.
