Know what is the ICC rule
According to clause 19.45 of the updated rules of the ICC (effective from May 2023), players are allowed to wear only “white, cream or light brown socks” in Test matches. While in limited overs cricket, players are allowed to wear socks matching the color of their trousers. The rules for socks are more strict in Tests. Whether Gill will be punished or not depends on the assessment of the match referee. If the violation is considered a Level 1 offense, Gill can be fined 10 to 20 percent of the match fee. If it is found that the violation was done fraudulently, then he can escape punishment.
