Telegram founder and CEO Pavel Durov has announced that he will distribute his entire wealth among his 106 children. The total value of these assets is around $17 billion (about ₹1.41 lakh crores). In an interview to a French magazine Le Point, Durov said that he is 40 years old and so far he has become the biological father of 106 children.

He further said that out of 106 children, 6 children were born normally with 3 different women, while the remaining 100 children were born through sperm donation in 12 countries. He said, “I consider all my children equal, whether they are born normally or through sperm donation. Everyone will get equal inheritance.”

Children will not get inheritance till 2055

According to Durov’s plan, none of his children will get this inheritance before 2055. That is, everyone will get their share only after June 19, 2055. His thinking behind this decision is that children should work hard themselves and not depend on bank balance. He said, “I want them to live a normal life, learn to trust themselves and make something of themselves.”

Investigation and arrest going on in France

It is worth noting that Durov is currently under investigation in France. He was arrested at Bourget Airport in France in August 2024. He is accused of promoting drug trafficking, money laundering, objectionable content related to children and organized crime through the Telegram platform.

Durov has denied all these allegations. He told Le Point, “Till date there is no concrete evidence against me to prove that I have been involved in any illegal activity.”

Telegram’s response

Telegram defended its CEO in a statement, saying, “Pavel Durov has nothing to hide. He travels regularly to Europe. It is absurd to say that a platform or its owner should be blamed for the misuse of that platform.”

The company also clarified that it follows laws like the European Union’s Digital Services Act and its content moderation rules meet industry standards.

Telegram: A strong platform for privacy

Launched in 2013, Telegram is known for its strong encryption features and privacy first policy. This is the reason why this platform attracts crores of users on one hand, while on the other hand it has also become a headache for law enforcement agencies.
