Major accident in Gujarat, Gambhira bridge on Mahisagar river collapsed, many vehicles fell, 9 people died

The bridge built on the Mahisagar river in Gujarat has collapsed. So far 5 vehicles have fallen into the bridge due to its collapse. 9 people have died and some people have been rescued. This bridge was built in 1985. Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel has sent technical experts to the spot and handed over the investigation.

On the incident of the collapse of the bridge, Secretary of Road and Building Department PR Patelia said, “We have received information about the damage to the Gambhira bridge, due to which this accident happened. A team of experts has been sent to the spot.”

Even after the warning, the movement on the bridge did not stop

Of the 5 vehicles that fell into the river due to the collapse of this bridge, two trucks got completely submerged in the river, while a tanker remained half hanging. As soon as the bridge collapsed, there was chaos on the spot and rescue work was started immediately.

Let us tell you that this bridge was built in 1981 and opened in 1985, but with time its condition had become very dilapidated. Local MLA Chaitanya Singh Jhala had already warned about this bridge and demanded a new bridge. Despite this, the movement of vehicles on the bridge was not stopped. Now the government has approved the construction of a new bridge at a cost of Rs 212 crore and a survey has also been conducted for this.

The Chief Minister ordered a team of experts to investigate

Looking at the seriousness of the incident, the Chief Minister has ordered an investigation by sending a team of technical experts to the spot. Immediately after the accident, the officials became active and the work of removing the vehicles that fell into the river was started. Also, swimmers started taking out the bodies.

This incident once again raises questions on old and weak infrastructure. If the movement of vehicles had been stopped in time and the construction of a new bridge had begun, perhaps this tragedy could have been avoided. Now it remains to be seen what comes out in the investigation report and what action is taken against the culprits.
