Enthusiasm was seen among women candidates in Uttarakhand Panchayat elections, 59 percent filed nomination

Barring Haridwar district, the preparations for the three-tier panchayat elections are being witnessed in 12 districts of the state. After the revised notification related to panchayat elections was issued on June 28, the nomination process went on from July 2 to July 5. In such a situation, 63,569 candidates have filed their nominations against 66,418 posts of the three-tier panchayat elections. The special thing is that 37,356 women candidates have filed nomination papers in comparison to the total candidates. Which is about 59 percent of the total nominations.
Apart from this, out of the total nominations of 63,569 for the panchayat elections, a total of 2,401 candidates from the Scheduled Tribe category, 11,208 candidates from the Scheduled Caste category and 4,532 candidates from the Other Backward Classes have filed nomination papers. As per the schedule set for the three-tier panchayat elections, the nomination papers will be scrutinized by June.
During every panchayat election, women enthusiastically ensure their participation, but this time the nominations were set by the Panchayati Raj Department. More than 50 percent seats have been reserved for women in reservation. The effect of which was seen on the candidates who filed nominations.
Although, reservation was done for about 50 percent of the posts, but this time women have decided to try their luck in the Panchayat elections in large numbers. Under which 59 percent women have filed their nominations. Three-tier Panchayat elections are being held in 12 districts of the state except Haridwar district.
Status of nomination: In this way, 1,885 candidates have filed nominations for a total of 358 posts of District Panchayat member. Out of which 931 are women candidates. 11,478 nomination papers have been filed for 2,974 posts of Area Panchayat member, which includes 6,221 women candidates.
A total of 21,912 candidates have submitted nomination papers for 7,499 posts of Pradhan Gram Panchayat, in which the number of women candidates is 12,510. Similarly, a total of 28,294 nomination papers have been filed for 55,587 posts of Gram Panchayat members, out of which the number of women candidates is 17,694.
