Uttarakhand Panchayat elections: 3,382 nominations cancelled, 58,814 candidates in the fray, 1,313 names withdrawn

3,382 nominations have been cancelled in the three-tier panchayat elections of Uttarakhand. After the withdrawal of 1,313 nominations on the first day, now 58,814 candidates are left in the fray. Releasing the data of the final nomination list, the State Election Commission said that the final list of candidates will be released after the withdrawal of nominations on Friday.

Commission Secretary Rahul Kumar Goyal said that 37 nominations for the post of District Panchayat member, 317 for area panchayat member, 297 for Pradhan and 2,731 nominations for member Gram Panchayat were cancelled after scrutiny.

Now the opportunity to withdraw nominations will be given till 3 pm on Saturday. After the withdrawal of nominations, the status of the candidates elected unopposed and the candidates contesting the elections will become clear. After this, election symbols will be allotted on July 14 for the first phase of elections, whose election will be held on July 24.

Liquor, cash and jewellery worth more than two crore seized

In view of the Panchayat elections, the police seized 859.93 liters of liquor worth Rs 3,45,985 and the Excise seized 582.20 liters of liquor worth Rs 2,95,409. The police seized 3.29 kg of narcotics worth about Rs 19,53,600. The police recovered 0.3915 kg of precious metal worth Rs 25,10,000 and cash worth Rs 4,22,100. So far, cash, liquor and narcotics worth Rs 2,01,51,924 have been recovered.
