A statewide campaign against fake drugs has started in Uttarakhand from Saturday. The objective of this campaign is to make the state “drug free Uttarakhand” and to provide safe, quality and authentic medicines to the public. This action is being taken with the aim of eliminating the discrepancies prevailing in the pharma sector of the state and to protect the young generation from the ill effects of narcotic drugs.
‘Operation Clean’ started against fake drugs in Uttarakhand
This mega campaign run by the Health Department is being conducted under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act 1940 and Rule 1945. Health Secretary Dr. R. Rajesh Kumar said that this is not only drug control, but a concrete initiative towards public health and social security. There is no place for negligence in this campaign.
Strict action will be taken against spurious drug mafias
Under this campaign across the state, strict action is being taken against spurious drug mafias. Surveillance on those who manufacture, store and sell spurious, substandard, misbranded and narcotic drugs, detailed investigation of drug manufacturing firms, wholesalers, retailers and raw material supplying firms, joint raids will be conducted with the cooperation of local police and administration.
Government formed Quick Response Team
The Health Secretary said that the clear message of this campaign is that strict legal action will be taken against any person or institution found involved in the trade of spurious or narcotic drugs. The Secretary informed that the State Government has constituted a special Quick Response Team (QRT) for this action, which is being led by Assistant Drug Controller, Kumaon Division Hemant Singh. This QRT has the right to take immediate action on the report of the laboratory, information received from the district administration and information received from the toll free helpline.

Health Secretary Dr. R. Rajesh Kumar informed that the Health Department has started toll free helpline 18001804246. Any citizen can share information regarding fake, narcotic or suspicious medicines on this. The identity of the complainant will be kept completely confidential. Prompt investigation and necessary action is being taken on the information received.
