Russia and Ukraine bomb each other; four people killed, many injured in air strikes

Russia and Ukraine carried out air strikes on each other overnight on Friday. Two people each were killed in both countries in these attacks. Local officials said that rockets and drones were used to attack the southern Dnipro and north-eastern Sumy regions of Ukraine. Dnipro chief Serhiy Lysak said that at least two people were killed and five injured in the attack.

A multi-storey building and business establishments were damaged during the attack in the city of Dnipro and a shopping center caught fire in the area. Three people were injured in Sumy. Kharkiv was hit by heavy air bombardment overnight. Local officials said that four guided aerial bombs, two ballistic missiles and 15 drones were fired on Ukraine’s second largest city over a period of three hours.

The mayor of Kharkiv said that high-rise residential buildings, local businesses, roads and communication networks were damaged in the attack. At least five people were injured, including three rescue workers. He said Russia launched a second attack targeting emergency workers trying to help those injured in the initial attack.

According to the Air Force’s daily report, Russia targeted Ukraine with a total of 208 drones and 27 missiles overnight. According to preliminary data, air defense and electronic warfare shot down or intercepted 183 drones and 17 missiles, but attacks from 10 missiles and 25 drones were recorded in nine locations.

At the same time, Russian officials have also confirmed Ukrainian drone attacks. Officials said Ukrainian drones targeted several areas overnight. Acting Governor Yuri Slyusar said two people were killed in a drone attack in the Rostov region bordering Ukraine. Mayor Sergei Sobyanin says drones have also tried to target Moscow, but they were shot down. An unidentified industrial facility southeast of the capital was also targeted. Russia’s Defense Ministry said its air defense systems shot down a total of 54 Ukrainian drones, including 24 in the Bryansk region bordering Ukraine, 12 in the Rostov region, six on the Crimean peninsula, four in the Sea of Azov, three in the Black Sea and several others in the Oryol, Tula and Belgorod regions.
