Uttarakhand: Fake news of CM’s replacement spread on social media, case filed against operators of 3 Facebook pages

Spreading rumors of change of Chief Minister on social media amidst disaster relief work in Uttarakhand proved costly for some people. Taking this matter seriously, the police has now started showing strictness. Dehradun Police has registered a case against 3 Facebook page operators.

Dehradun Police took action against page operators these days

Let us tell you that the police took this action on the complaint given by BJP District President Dehradun Siddharth Agarwal. Investigation revealed that false and misleading posts related to change of Chief Minister were circulated from Facebook pages “I Love My Uttarakhand Culture”, “Uttarakhand Wale” and “Janata Jan Andolan Irritated”. Police has started legal action against the page operators.

Government work is being affected by rumors

It is worth noting that these days Bageshwar, Uttarkashi, Chamoli, Rudraprayag and Pithoragarh districts are the most affected by the disaster. In such difficult circumstances, rumors like change of Chief Minister were not only hampering relief and rescue operations, but also affecting government work and administrative system.

Police warning to those who spread false information

The police has warned that those who spread false and unconfirmed information on social media will not be spared. Also, the public has been appealed not to pay attention to any kind of rumor and not to share any information without confirmation. The police said that social media is being constantly monitored in the state and strict action will continue against those who spread misleading information.
