Former Uttarakhand Chief Minister and senior Congress leader Harish Rawat reached Tharali, the disaster-hit area of Chamoli, on Tuesday. Tharali chief Praveen Purohit and former MLA from Kapkot Lalit Farswan were also present with him. He met people in the disaster-hit area of Tharali as well as in all the affected areas including Sol valley.

He said that the roads have been blocked in Sol area for the last 11 days. There are many other villages in Dewal development block including Kurad, Partha, Sagwara, where the food crisis is deepening due to the blockage of roads. In such a situation, the government should supply logistics to the villages facing the crisis of food supply with the help of helicopters.

After taking stock of the disaster-hit area in Tharali, former Chief Minister Rawat reached Chepdo village. Former Chief Minister Harish Rawat said that in this hour of disaster, the government should provide all possible help to the disaster-affected people. Also, the state government should work to provide relief to those whose houses, shops have been damaged, whose livelihood has been affected. He said that the government should work towards resettling Chepdo Bazaar and the work of securing the population in disaster-affected Tharali should be done on priority.

Demand to declare Uttarakhand as a disaster-prone state: On the other hand, former cabinet minister Harak Singh Rawat has demanded that Uttarakhand be declared a disaster-prone state regarding the incidents of disaster being recorded continuously in Uttarakhand. He said that when Himachal Pradesh, which is facing a severe disaster, has been declared a disaster-prone state, then why is Uttarakhand being neglected.

He said that the flood of disaster from Tharali to Dharali has caused heavy damage. Many areas of Pauri district and Kedarghati are affected by the disaster. He said that he held public meetings several times in Jakholi block of Rudraprayag, where the entire market was washed away by heavy rains. Similar situation is also in Chamoli and Uttarkashi district. There has been heavy loss due to the disaster there. He said that during this rainy season, Uttarakhand is continuously facing the brunt of natural disasters like landslides, cloudbursts, floods. In this situation, Uttarakhand should be immediately declared a disaster-hit state.

Raised the issue of two thousand flats on Sahastradhara Road: Harak Singh Rawat also raised the issue of two thousand flats on Sahastradhara Road. He said that approval was given to build houses for the poor and homeless people on Sahastradhara Road under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana. While being the Labor Minister, he had issued Jio in 10 installments and ordered to release Labor Cess in 10 installments.

To implement the housing scheme in the village of Sahastradhara Road, the map of building two thousand flats was also approved from MDDA. But when he visited there recently, he saw that instead of building the houses that should have been built for the poor and the people living in slums, the land is being illegally destroyed. Illegal plotting is being done there, due to which the role of MDDA is under suspicion.

Harak Singh Rawat said that if even an inch of a common man’s lintel protrudes out, then MDDA immediately reaches to demolish that encroachment. But the land of 2 thousand houses for the poor was destroyed. Mussoorie Dehradun Development Authority has no answer to this.
