Uttarakhand: Devrada village in Chamoli may regain village status, HC issues major order

The long-standing demand of the people of Devrada village in Tharali tehsil of Chamoli district has finally been fulfilled. Seeing the villagers’ distress, state activist Harish Sati brought the matter to the attention of the government and administration.
Devrada village may regain its village status
The villagers were disgruntled after Devrada village was included in the Nagar Panchayat Tharali. The villagers stated that even after being included in the Nagar Panchayat area, they were still unable to access basic amenities. The villagers even boycotted the Lok Sabha and Nagar Panchayat elections to ensure their demands were met. The absence of public representatives had completely stalled development work in the village.
HC seeks response from the government
State activist Harish Sati filed a petition in the High Court regarding the matter. Hearing the petition, the High Court ordered the Uttarakhand government to resolve the matter within six months and submit a response to the court. This decision has brought joy to the village. The villagers hope that now they will get the status of village again.
