France recognizes Palestine as a nation, UN says ‘two-nation solution is the only way’

France recognizes Palestine as a nation
The politics of Middle East Asia are becoming increasingly interesting. While Israel is waging a campaign against Hamas in Gaza, several countries, including Britain, Canada, and Australia, have recognized Palestine one after another. Now, France has joined this list. French President Emmanuel Macron announced on Monday that France has officially recognized the Palestinian state. This step was taken during a United Nations conference.
Statehood is a right, not a reward – UN
United Nations (UN) Secretary-General Antonio Guterres stated that “Palestinian statehood is a right, not a reward.” Antonio Guterres made this statement on Monday at a meeting of global leaders aimed at reviving efforts to create a Palestinian state alongside Israel. However, the Israeli government rejected Palestinian statehood, saying it would benefit Hamas.
What did France argue?
French President Emmanuel Macron has announced recognition of the Palestinian state. France’s decision comes a day after Canada, the United Kingdom, and Australia announced formal recognition of Palestine. Macron said, “We must do everything in our power to preserve the possibility of a two-state solution, so that Israelis and Palestinians can live together in peace and security.”
A two-state solution is the only way forward – UN
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres’s spokesman, Stephane Dujarric, also made a significant statement. Dujarric said, “A meeting is scheduled for Monday regarding a two-state solution. This meeting is very important for the UNGA. We believe that a two-state solution is the only solution that can resolve the challenges currently visible between Israel and Palestine.”
What is Israel’s position?
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has categorically refused to recognize Palestine as a nation. Netanyahu has clearly stated that a Palestinian state will not be established. He said, “It will not happen. A Palestinian state will not be established west of the Jordan River.” Netanyahu alleged that this move was like rewarding Hamas.
