Uttarakhand: 125th Board Meeting of UPCL held under the chairmanship of Chief Secretary

The 125th board meeting of Uttarakhand Power Corporation Limited was held at the Secretariat on Friday under the chairmanship of Chief Secretary Anand Bardhan. During the meeting, the Chief Secretary directed the inclusion of the Finance Secretary on the board. He also suggested including a person with a technical background on the board.

The budget for the next financial year should be approved by the board by February-March: Chief Secretary

The Chief Secretary stated that continuous efforts should be made to reduce project costs. He stated that the cheaper the loan for projects, the better. To achieve this, continuous contact should be maintained with financing agencies. He directed that the board’s recommendation for the next financial year’s budget must be obtained by February-March.

Instructions given to establish vigilance mechanisms in all three corporations

The Chief Secretary also directed the establishment of vigilance mechanisms in all three corporations. He said that a vigilance mechanism should be established in all three corporations soon after meeting with the Vigilance Secretary. The Chief Secretary also directed UPCL to implement ERP by January 1, 2026. He also directed that quarterly performance reviews be conducted in all three corporations. He said that this would help assess the corporation’s progress on short-term goals, identify areas for improvement, and set new objectives for the next quarter.

The Chief Secretary also emphasized the use of new technologies. He said that before using a new technology, it should be piloted in a few locations to avoid significant losses if it is discontinued if it proves to be less successful or fails. He emphasized the need for all corporations to adopt a professional approach. He also called for conducting techno-economic feasibility tests before starting projects.

Present on this occasion were Principal Secretary R. Meenakshi Sundaram, Independent Director (Board) Parag Gupta, B.P. Pandey, Additional Secretary Dr. Ahmed Iqbal, MD UPCL Anil Yadav, MD UJVNL Sandeep Singhal and MD Pitkul PC Dhyani along with other senior officials were present.
