The pain of migration hasn’t ended in Uttarakhand even today. The government may make numerous claims of reverse migration, but the once vibrant mountain villages are now so desolate that if someone dies, there aren’t even four shoulders to carry the body.

Four Shoulders Unable to Carry the Elderly Man’s Body

A similar situation is unfolding in Lwegarh village in Rudraprayag district. This village is suffering so much from migration that an elderly woman died two days earlier, on October 9th. But four people couldn’t even be found to carry the body. When villagers from a nearby village were informed of the incident, they rushed to the village, and only the next day could the elderly woman’s funeral be performed.

Lwegarh village in Rudraprayag lies deserted

It is being reported that due to the lack of basic amenities in Lwegarh village, this village is now completely deserted due to migration. This village once housed 15-16 families, but today only three remain. This begs the question: why is this village suffering the brunt of migration? Why has it been neglected and abandoned? Why have these villagers been deprived of basic amenities like education, health, electricity, water, and employment? This village is demanding answers from responsible public representatives.
