Uttarakhand: Dhami cabinet decision – Foreigners can also get marriage registration done under UCC

A cabinet meeting was held at the Dehradun Secretariat under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami. Eight proposals were approved. The meeting began at 10:30 am and lasted for about three hours.

Permission for construction in the frozen zone in Raipur: In view of the construction of the Assembly building in the Raipur area of ​​Dehradun, the surrounding areas were declared a freeze zone. Consequently, the cabinet has approved minor construction within this freeze zone, allowing individual residences and shops to be built within the freeze zone. However, the Housing Department will issue separate guidelines for this purpose. Furthermore, the cabinet has decided to upgrade the state’s mini Anganwadi centers to Anganwadi centers.

Major Amendment to the UCC

The marriage registration process has been in full swing in Uttarakhand since the implementation of the Uniform Civil Code. Uttarakhand also has close ties with Nepal, Bhutan, and Tibet. Consequently, citizens of these countries living in Uttarakhand are unable to register their marriages under the UCC because they lack Aadhaar cards. Due to this, the Uttarakhand government has decided to amend the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) regulations, which exempt Nepalese, Bhutanese, and Tibetan citizens from the Aadhaar card requirement and also validate other documents. The cabinet has approved the amendments to the UCC regulations.
