The Director General of Information (DG Information) of Uttarakhand has now taken a firm stance against the misleading and baseless propaganda being spread against him on social media. He has filed a formal complaint with the Dehradun SSP, stating that some individuals are systematically attempting to tarnish his image. In the complaint, he has also submitted substantial digital evidence of this conspiracy to the police.

The Director General of Information stated that for some time now, false and misleading information has been spread against him through certain social media accounts and groups, which is not only damaging his personal reputation but also affecting the image of the department. He stated that this is being done in a pre-planned manner to pressure officials and influence their decisions.

Attempts are being made to vitiate the atmosphere by targeting officials

In his complaint, he stated that this entire campaign is being conducted under a “gang” or lobby system, which is attempting to vitiate the atmosphere by targeting administrative officials of the state. The Director General of Information stated, “The campaign being waged against me is a conspiracy by a disgruntled group. Making unsubstantiated allegations and spreading rumors on social media is against both my dignity and peace of mind.”

Demands Strict Police Action

He further stated that such behavior not only violates the IT Act and defamation laws, but also attempts to undermine discipline and transparency in government service. He requested the police to identify these social media accounts and their operators and take strict action to prevent such acts in the future.

According to sources, the Director General of Information has submitted several screenshots, posts, and excerpts from WhatsApp group chats as evidence in his complaint. He stated that this campaign is not solely aimed at personal gain but also at defaming departmental functioning.

SSP Office Confirms Complaint

The SSP office confirmed receiving the complaint and stated that the matter has been assigned to the Cyber Crime Cell. Police are now conducting a technical investigation of these accounts to determine where and from which devices these posts were made. Following a preliminary investigation, action may be taken against the individuals involved under sections 66A, 67 of the Information Act, and sections related to defamation of the Indian Penal Code.

Intensifying unrest within the Information Department

Following this entire incident, unrest has intensified within the state’s Information Department. Department sources say that the Director General had taken several strong steps in recent months to increase transparency and accountability within the department, which angered some disgruntled elements. Now, these same individuals are attempting to exert pressure on him through such actions.

In administrative circles, this case is being viewed as a case of “digital blackmail and a conspiracy to tarnish the image.” Experts say that in the age of social media, spreading rumors has become easier, but when a senior government official is targeted, it is considered a direct attack on governance.

Police have launched an investigation into the matter

At present, the police have launched an investigation into the matter, and it is likely that the identities of the members of this alleged “gang” will be revealed in the coming days. This action by the Director General of Information is now being seen as a precedent against social media misuse within the state administration.
