8643 challans issued in Uttarakhand in 9 months, 2405 driving licences suspended, know district-wise figures

To strengthen road safety and curb dangerous behaviors like drunk driving, the Traffic Directorate, Uttarakhand Police, is continuously conducting special enforcement campaigns in all districts of the state. The campaign aims to reduce accidents caused by drunk driving and increase public awareness about traffic discipline.
Enforcement Actions from January to September 2025: Under the direction of the Police Headquarters and the Traffic Directorate, a total of 8,643 challans were issued in various districts across the state for drunk driving. A total of 2,405 driving licenses (DLs) were sent to the Transport Department for suspension. Data released by the Traffic Directorate confirms that Dehradun has seen the highest number of drunk driving cases. DL suspensions have been sent to the Transport Department.
Action Taken in Districts
4,286 challans were issued in Dehradun district, and 1,144 DLs were sent for suspension.
- In Pauri Garhwal district, 1682 challans were issued, 752 for DL suspension.
- In Haridwar district, 1097 challans were issued, 77 for DL suspension.
- In Nainital district, 448 challans were issued, 157 for DL suspension.
- In Pithoragarh district, 291 challans were issued, 80 for DL suspension.
- In Udham Singh Nagar district, 279 challans were issued, 19 for DL suspension.
- In Tehri Garhwal district, 212 challans were issued, 95 for DL suspension.
- In Chamoli district, 72 challans were issued, 19 for DL suspension.
- In Uttarkashi district, 66 challans were issued, 14 for DL suspension.
- In Champawat district, 65 challans were issued, 11 for DL suspension.
- In Almora district, 52 challans were issued, 8 for DL suspension.
- In Bageshwar district, 47 challans were issued, with 19 sent for DL suspension.
- In Rudraprayag district, 46 challans were issued, with 10 sent for DL suspension.
Traffic Director Anant Shankar Takwale stated that action against drunk drivers was reviewed. During the review, instructions were given to further strengthen effective enforcement and awareness campaigns at the district level. Furthermore, driving under the influence not only endangers the driver’s life but also poses a serious risk to other road users.
The Transport Department, Pithoragarh, is in action to ensure road safety during Diwali. Under a special campaign led by ARTO (Enforcement) Shivansh Kandpal, 70 vehicles have been challaned under various sections related to road safety in the last two days. Two vehicles have been seized. ARTO Kandpal stated that a comprehensive checking campaign will be conducted in the district from October 18th to 25th. In which strict monitoring will be done especially on overloading.
