Suspicious Death of Journalist Pankaj Mishra
The incident occurred late Monday night. Pankaj Mishra (52) died under suspicious circumstances on Monday night in Doon Vihar Colony, under the Rajpur police station area. According to his wife, Pankaj suddenly experienced stomach pain late at night. He went to the toilet. While returning to the room, he slipped and fell outside the toilet.
Mishra’s wife said that he was overweight, due to which she was unable to lift him back to the bed. Therefore, she covered him with a blanket outside the toilet and went to sleep. When her husband did not regain consciousness in the morning, she informed the police. Upon being taken to the hospital, doctors declared Pankaj Mishra dead.
Pankaj Mishra was a heavy drinker
It is reported that Pankaj Mishra was a heavy drinker. On Monday evening, he had consumed a large amount of alcohol with two friends. During this time, an argument broke out between him and his friends. The dispute quickly escalated into a physical fight. Upon receiving the information, the police arrived at the scene. The police said that Pankaj was heavily intoxicated, due to which he refused to file a complaint. After which, the police left the scene. In the morning, the police received another call about him being unconscious, and he was taken to the hospital. But by then, he had already died.
What did Pankaj Mishra’s brother state in the complaint?
Regarding the matter, Pankaj Mishra’s brother, Arvind, has filed a complaint with the police. In it, he has filed a case against Amit Sehgal under sections including murder and robbery. Amit Sehgal is the same person with whom Pankaj had the argument after drinking alcohol. In the complaint, Arvind alleged that Sehgal and another person came to Pankaj’s house in Jakhan and severely beat his brother.
Arvind also stated that his sister-in-law had recorded a video on her phone while the two friends were assaulting his brother. Because of this, they also attacked his sister-in-law, snatched her phone, and fled. Arvind further stated that his brother, who was injured in the assault, succumbed to his injuries a few hours later. Meanwhile, the police have launched a search operation to apprehend the accused. It is worth noting that on December 16, the family members, dissatisfied with Pankaj’s post-mortem report, demanded a second post-mortem examination by a panel of doctors. The panel of doctors will conduct the second post-mortem examination of the deceased Pankaj on Wednesday.
