In the case of the suspicious death of journalist Pankaj Mishra in the Doon Vihar area of Dehradun, the police have arrested Amit Sehgal (51), son of the late Ashok Sehgal, and Parthosheel (45), son of Manindranath Seal, residents of East Mumbai, for allegedly assaulting him. The deceased’s brother, Arvind, had leveled serious allegations against Sehgal and his associates, claiming they assaulted him with the intention of killing him.
Pankaj Mishra was found unconscious
The incident occurred on December 16. The police received information that a man living in a rented accommodation in the Doon Vihar area was lying unconscious and unresponsive. Upon receiving the information, the police reached the spot. They found Pankaj Mishra lying face down and unconscious on the floor near the bed in the back room of the house. He was immediately taken to Doon Hospital by ambulance, where doctors declared him dead.
Severely beaten a day before his death
On the night of December 16, the deceased’s brother, Arvind Mishra, a resident of Lucknow, along with other family members, reached Dehradun and met with the SSP of Dehradun. The family filed a complaint, stating that on December 15, some people had come to the deceased’s house, where they verbally abused him, snatched his mobile phone, and assaulted him with the intention of killing him. The family claims that Pankaj Mishra died as a result of this assault.
