Senior advocate Yatin Oza has been elected president of the Gujarat High Court Advocates Association for the 18th time

Senior advocate Yatin Ojha was elected president of the Gujarat High Court Advocates’ Association (GHCAA) on Saturday. With this victory, he has assumed the reins of the body for a record 18th time. His 17th election was held in 2019 and lasted until 2021.

Ojha said: “The Bar has done its duty; now it is my duty to work for the Bar. I can assure them that I will never let them down. I have always thought and worked in their favor, and this time my approach will be no different.”

A total of 2,185 votes were cast in the election held on Friday (December 19). Senior Advocate Ojha received 969 votes. The other candidates for the post were outgoing president Advocate Brijesh Trivedi, Babu Mangukiya, Darshan Shah, and Chitrajit Upadhyay.

In related news, Senior Advocate Ojha’s appeal against the 2020 Gujarat High Court order holding him guilty of criminal contempt for alleging misadministration of justice by the High Court is pending in the Supreme Court.

The next hearing date of this case is 17th February

Notably, the High Court also revoked his senior advocate status in July 2020. He appealed against this in the Supreme Court. In October 2021, the Supreme Court temporarily reinstated his senior advocate status for two years.

Consequently, the High Court reinstated Ojha’s senior status through a resolution passed on December 24, 2021. This temporary reinstatement was extended in January this year.
