No Reason, No Notice: Teachers Allege Forced Resignations at IMS University, Dehradun

IMS Unison University, a private institution in Dehradun, has allegedly forced several faculty members and staff to resign without citing any reason. The move has sparked concern across the academic community.
According to recently departed faculty members, around 15 employees have been asked to resign over the past few months. This includes nine teachers from various schools. Sources claim that on July 16, 2026, five faculty members from the Schools of Management, Law and Journalism were directed to resign with immediate effect. Some were relieved of their duties the same day. Earlier, in May 2026, approximately ten employees, including four faculty members, were also allegedly asked to step down and were relieved shortly thereafter.

Speaking on condition of anonymity, one recently relieved faculty member said the affected teachers held degrees from some of the country’s most reputed institutions.
“On 15 July, five faculty members from the Schools of Management, Law and Journalism were informed that they had to resign immediately. No reason was provided. Many of us hold degrees from premier institutions, including Central Universities and IITs, yet we were asked to leave without any explanation,” the faculty member alleged.

Another former faculty member expressed disappointment over how the separation was handled. “I served the university for several years and contributed far beyond my teaching and research responsibilities. I coordinated cultural and sports events, counselled students, and undertook several administrative assignments that were outside my formal job profile. Despite my sincere service, I was asked to resign without any explanation. Faculty members who had served the institution for nearly six years were also reportedly asked to resign and relieved immediately,” the former faculty member said.

Former employees further alleged that similar action was taken against several non-teaching staff members in May 2026. According to them, these employees were asked to resign and relieved the following day without receiving the stipulated notice period. They contend that such actions violated the principles of natural justice and applicable labour regulations. These allegations have not been independently verified.

The reported resignations have triggered widespread discussion within Dehradun’s academic community. The city hosts several prominent higher education institutions and attracts faculty from across the country. Academicians say the developments have created uncertainty and anxiety among teachers, particularly those in private universities.

Sources claim the incident has prompted several teachers at IMS Unison University to explore opportunities at other institutions. Many have updated their profiles on academic recruitment platforms. The episode has also become a talking point among educators across the city. It has raised broader concerns about employment security in private higher education.
