Uttarakhand: 92.46% of work under Jal Jeevan Mission completed; CM Dhami directs timely completion of remaining projects

Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami reviewed the progress, financial status, and the operation and maintenance of drinking water schemes under the Jal Jeevan Mission at the Secretariat on Wednesday. The Chief Minister directed that the remaining works be completed within the stipulated timeframe and that regular, adequate, and quality drinking water reach every rural household.

It was reported during the meeting that out of a total of 16,555 schemes under the Jal Jeevan Mission in the state, 15,540 have been completed. The average progress of the mission at the state level stands at 92.46 percent, while work is ongoing on 1,015 schemes.

Regarding the provision of tap water facilities to rural households, it was stated that tap connections have been provided to 14.20 lakh out of the total 14.48 lakh rural households. Furthermore, on-ground verification of tap water availability has been completed in 9,796 out of 14,979 villages.

The Chief Minister stated that the success of the Jal Jeevan Mission is not limited merely to providing tap connections; it is essential that regular, adequate, safe, and quality drinking water reaches every household. He also directed that on-ground verification of the completed schemes be conducted.

While directing that under-construction and pending schemes be completed in ‘mission mode,’ the Chief Minister asked District Magistrates to coordinate with the concerned departments to ensure the speedy resolution of issues. He instructed officials to regularly review the physical and financial progress of the schemes and to fix district-wise targets, timelines, and accountability.

The Chief Minister also placed special emphasis on the conservation and rejuvenation of drinking water sources in hilly areas. He directed that effective measures be taken for rainwater harvesting and the recharging of water sources. Additionally, he called for ensuring a permanent system for the regular operation and maintenance of drinking water schemes.

The Chief Minister gave clear instructions that accountability must be fixed for the concerned executing agencies and responsible officials in cases where unnecessary delays in the schemes are found.

The meeting was attended by the Vice-Chairman of the Infrastructure Monitoring Council, Vishwas Dabar, and Principal Secretary R.K. Officials from the concerned departments were present, including Sudhanshu, Secretary (Drinking Water) Ranveer Singh Chauhan, Additional Secretary Rohit Meena, and Jharna Kamthan.
