After the devastation caused by cyclonic storm Goa, it has now turned to Gujarat and according to the Meteorological Department, it is likely to reach Gujarat coast by this evening. Also, on the morning of 18 May, the storm will pass between Porbandar and Mahua in Bhavnagar district. The government’s preparations for the storm are in full swing. From Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the Union Home Minister and the Chief Ministers of the states are constantly taking stock of the preparations. The Meteorological Department has already predicted the storm to take a more devastating form. Many states have been kept on alert for this and other relief teams including NDMA, Coast Guard have taken the front.
So far, 11 people have died in 5 states due to cyclonic storms from the Arabian Sea. Around 1.5 lakh people are being shifted from the coastal areas of Gujarat. The storm may hit Gujarat coast between Porbandar and Mahuva (Bhavnagar) on Tuesday morning. During this time the speed of the storm can be up to 185 kilometers per hour.
National Disaster Response Force Director General SN Pradhan has informed that more than 100 NDRF teams have been deployed in 7 districts. Gujarat may have the most impact of the storm, so there are 50 teams deployed in Gujarat alone. Cyclone Toute is moving towards Mumbai at a speed of 18 km per hour. Toute storm is currently around 200 km from Mumbai and 400 km from Gujarat. To deal with this storm, 12 teams have been deployed in the entire Maharashtra including three NDRF teams in Mumbai.
